Chainsaw Suit

Twistori

I think I told some of you guys about this a couple of weeks ago. It's a year or two old, but pretty cool imho.

You select one of the touchy feely words on the left and it sucks in recent Twitter posts featuring that word.

A Web That Speaks Your Language

IN the early years of the Web, nearly all of its content appeared in English. But that is changing quickly. Today, articles on Wikipedia are available in more than 200 languages, for example. And about 36 percent of the seven million blogs running on WordPress, a free software platform, are in languages other than English, according to the founder Matt Mullenweg.

Bud Tingwell RIP

I'm not one to get overly sentimental when celebrities die, but this is a classic:

Play with Space in real time

Interesting to have something like this at a conference or opening night somewhere.
Or a gallery that is entirely run by people online, they control the artworks, music and lighting.

960 Grid System

This has been around for a while and is what I use for everything.

Even if you already have a favourite grid, the site is worth a look to see a good showcase of grid based design.

If you download the kit you get templates for Fireworks, Inkscape, Illustrator, OmniGraffle, Photoshop & Visio, as well as Printable sketch paper.

More info here.

Essence

The 960 Grid System is an effort to streamline web development workflow by providing commonly used dimensions, based on a width of 960 pixels. There are two variants: 12 and 16 columns, which can be used separately or in tandem.

The 12 column grid is divided into portions that are 60 pixels wide. The 16 column grid consists of 40 pixel increments. Each column has 10 pixels of margin on the left and right, which create 20 pixel wide gutters between columns.

Banner Design Comp

The blog needs a banner. Whip one up at 730px wide and I'll post it up. I've made one to get us started.

We should turn the banner over as often as possible imho. Email them to me and I'll put them up.

Don't worry about creating any finely tuned pieces of art, they should be quick, dirty and loud!

If anyone is super-keen to take an active role, let me know and I'll make you a site admin.
